Kaninchen Dachshund FCI Standard № 148: Size, Temperament & Anatomy
What distinguishes the rabbit (kaninchen) dachshund from miniature and standard types, and why chest circumference is the defining metric.
The Kaninchen (Rabbit) Dachshund is the most miniature variety classified by the FCI (Standard № 148).
### The Primary Defining Standard
Unlike many toy breeds, dachshund classification is primarily governed by **chest circumference** rather than height at the withers, measured after 15 months of age:
* **Kaninchen Dachshund:** Chest circumference up to 30 cm (males) and up to 32 cm (females). Typical weight is 2.8 to 3.5 kg.
* **Miniature Dachshund:** Chest circumference from 30 to 37 cm.
* **Standard Dachshund:** Chest circumference exceeding 35 cm.
### Temperament
Despite their delicate proportions, kaninchen dachshunds possess great confidence and sharp intelligence. They are dignified, affectionate, and thoroughly loyal companions.
